Product Details

Slag is a vitreous material formed when molten slag from blast furnace ironmaking is rapidly cooled without having time to crystallize. After being finely ground, slag becomes an active blending material for cement.

The Slag Vertical Roller Mil integrates grinding, drying, powder selection, conveying, and collection into one system. With a rational overall structure, professional technology, simple control, easy operation, stable and reliable performance, and convenient maintenance, its main technical and economic indicators have reached an advanced professional level.

Working Principle

The slag material is fed to the center of the grinding table through the feeding pipe. The grinding table rotates at a constant speed, and under the action of centrifugal force, the raw material is uniformly dispersed and spread outward, forming a material bed of a certain thickness. The slag material is simultaneously crushed by the rolling of multiple grinding rollers on the table.

Driven by continuous centrifugal force, the slag material moves toward the outer edge of the grinding table. As the material leaves the table, it encounters hot gas entering the mill through the wind ring, rising with it. The material then passes through the central casing of the mill into the powder separator. During this process, the fine slag powder material fully exchanges heat with the hot gas, resulting in rapid evaporation of moisture.

The powder separator controls the fineness of the product at the roller mill’s outlet. Particles larger than the specified size are separated and fall back onto the grinding table, while materials meeting the fineness requirements pass through the powder separator and enter the finished product silo.

Features

1.Low energy consumption, low wear and tear, long service life.

2.Large output, high grinding efficiency, high powder selection accuracy.

3.Low dust and noise pollution, strong drying capacity.

Applications of Slag Vertical Roller Mill

Slag vertical roller mills are widely used in cement plants and slag micro-powder production lines to convert blast furnace slag into high-value GGBS. The finished slag powder is used as an active admixture in cement and concrete, improving durability and reducing production cost. Our mills also grind other industrial by-products such as steel slag, nickel slag and clinker when required.

How to Select a Slag Vertical Roller Mill

Select the GRMS model according to your annual GGBS output target and available power supply. For output below 30 ten-thousand tons per year choose GRMS33; for 30-45 ten-thousand tons choose GRMS40; for larger plants choose GRMS46, GRMS53 or GRMS56. Our engineers provide complete plant design, including the slag conveying, drying gas and finished product storage systems, to match your site conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the fineness of slag powder produced?
The finished slag powder from our GRMS vertical mills reaches a specific surface area of ≥420 m²/kg, meeting the standard for high-activity GGBS used in cement and concrete production. The integrated powder separator controls fineness precisely.
What is the difference between a slag vertical mill and a ball mill?
A slag vertical roller mill grinds slag by pressing the material bed with rollers, while a ball mill uses steel balls in a rotating drum. The vertical mill has lower energy consumption, higher drying capacity, smaller footprint and easier fineness adjustment, making it the preferred choice for large-capacity GGBS production.
How does a slag vertical mill save energy?
Compared with a ball mill, the slag vertical roller mill uses a material bed grinding principle with unit power consumption as low as 38 kWh/t. The integrated grinding, drying and classifying system avoids separate drying and conveying equipment, further reducing total energy and operating cost.
What is the capacity of the slag vertical roller mill?
Our GRMS series slag vertical mills offer hourly output from 45 TPH to 170 TPH, with annual output from 30 to 120 ten-thousand tons. Choose the model according to your production target: GRMS33 for 45 TPH, GRMS40 for 65 TPH, GRMS46 for 90 TPH, GRMS53 for 150 TPH and GRMS56 for 170 TPH.
What is GGBS and why is it used?
GGBS (ground granulated blast furnace slag) is a fine powder made by grinding granulated blast furnace slag. When mixed with cement, it improves concrete durability, reduces heat of hydration and lowers cost. Slag vertical roller mills are the most efficient equipment for producing high-quality GGBS.
What is a slag vertical roller mill?
A slag vertical roller mill (slag vertical mill) is a large grinding machine that grinds, dries, classifies and collects blast furnace slag in one system to produce GGBS (ground granulated blast furnace slag) powder for cement production. It combines low energy consumption with high output and stable operation.
What is the typical production capacity of a slag vertical roller mill?
Depending on the model, slag vertical roller mills can achieve large production capacities. For example, some industrial models can reach 45–170 t/h or more, making them suitable for large-scale slag powder production lines in cement and steel industries.
What are the advantages of using a slag vertical roller mill?
Slag vertical roller mills offer several advantages, including high grinding efficiency, low energy consumption, strong drying capability for high-moisture materials, and stable product fineness. Compared with traditional ball mills, energy consumption can be reduced significantly while maintaining large production capacity.
What materials can be processed by a slag vertical roller mill?
Besides blast furnace slag, the mill can also process steel slag, nickel slag, manganese slag, fly ash, limestone, gypsum, and other industrial mineral materials. It is widely used in cement plants, grinding stations, metallurgy, and building material industries.
How does a slag vertical roller mill work?
The slag material is fed to the center of a rotating grinding table. Under centrifugal force, the material spreads outward and is crushed between grinding rollers and the grinding table. Hot air carries the ground material upward to a classifier, where fine powder is separated and collected, while coarse particles are returned to the grinding area for further grinding.
What is a slag vertical roller mill used for?
A slag vertical roller mill is mainly used for grinding granulated blast furnace slag, steel slag, and other industrial waste materials into fine powder. The processed slag powder is widely used as a cement admixture or mineral additive in concrete production, helping reduce cement consumption and improve concrete durability.
